Prac-Pak was founded in 1985 by Peter Webb and started its operations from rented premises in Diep River. Peter was gradually joined by a number of family members, including his wife, Sue, who has kept impeccable financial control of the business and still handles the company’s accounts to this day. In 1991 Peter’s son, Russell, also joined the business and they haven’t looked back.

Prac-Pak has enjoyed consistent, solid growth and earlier in 2010 invested R13.5 million in purpose-built premises and new equipment to accommodate their ever-expanding business. Included in the upgrade is a pair of Mamata stand-up pouch makers, adding to the already impressive line-up of 14 bag-makers, four pouch makers, six slitter rewinders, a guillotine and a perforator. The company also runs its own sheet department.

Their in-house workshop, manned by two qualified fitters/turners, boasts the latest in computerised milling machinery and precision lathes, enabling them to repair any breakdown in-house, ensuring ongoing maintenance. This helps to minimise downtime and enhances Prac-Pak’s ability to deliver products on time.

The Webb family have held on to their previous factory as its close proximity to their new premises (just 300 m away) makes it extremely valuable for additional storage and warehousing. Prac-Pak now has more than 40 employees in the factory, plus an admin staff of 7.

The secret to Prac-Pak’s success is sound financial management, excellent client service, strict production control and good quality products in a very specialised market.

The fact that they are also approved suppliers to Woolworths, Pick ’n Pay and Spar says it all!
